David Richbell

David Richbell is a Civil and Commercial Mediator of over twenty years experience. Originally from a construction background he has mediated cases over numerous sectors both in the UK and several countries overseas. His settlement rate is remarkably high.

David is a committed advocate of non-evaluative mediation and his style is relaxed and informal. Noted for his extreme patience and tenacity, David is an expert at reality testing and challenging parties’ positions. He is gifted in getting clients to focus on what really matters.

Prior to becoming a full-time commercial Mediator he was a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager and he wrote the award-winning “Mediation of Construction Disputes”, published by Blackwells (and translated into Russian) and aimed at users of mediation. He has jalso published “How to Master Commercial Mediation”, published by Bloomsbury Professional, aimed at Mediators at every stage of their development.

He is a member of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s mediation advisory group and was involved in facilitating conversations that led to the positive vote on women bishops. He has extensive experience in many sectors including Professional Negligence, Construction, Heavy Engineering, Oil, Gas and Marine, Employment and Workplace, Probate and Trusts, Personal Injury, Agriculture, Sports and Media and Faith community disputes. A significant number of these include non-UK parties and parties from ethnic-minority groups.
